FIL head Joseph Fendt and IBSF counterpart Ivo Ferriani made a "flying visit" to the city as planning for the venue for luge, bobsleigh and skeleton continues.

The sliding sports venue is currently planned for the Yanqing venue cluster, which is around 100 kilometres from Beijing itself.

The visit from the Presidents follows a delegation from Beijing travelling to the Königssee track in Germany in June.

This was for a valuable "fact-finding" mission to help with the plans for the new ice track.

Both Fendt and Ferriani were in attendance alongside other representatives from both governing bodies.

Beijing's delegation presented a range of construction concepts for their ice track, while the location was also discussed.

Irina Gladkikh, the head of winter sports at the International Olympic Committee, was also in attendance in Königssee.

She was joined by Markus Aschauer, the manager of the track which is the oldest artificial course in the world.

He showed the Beijing group a study containing facts and figures relating to track usage and also explained economic factors.

Beijing, also the host of the Summer Olympics in 2008, were awarded the 2022 rights at the IOC Session in Kuala Lumpur last year.

The Chinese bid saw off competition from Kazakh city Almaty by 44 votes to 40.

No city has hosted both the Summer and Winter Games before.
