Better broadcasting of competitions, the launch of a mobile website and an improved presence on YouTube are among innovations introduced by the International Sport Climbing Federation (IFSC) to showcase their bid for Olympic inclusion.

World Cup coverage has “significantly improved” this year, a ISCF newsletter has claimed, largely thanks to new drone technology which has brought an “unparalleled perspective to live streaming”.

Viewers have also enjoyed slow motion replays of key moments and close-ups, as well as short highlight videos to repeat the key moments.

Short videos have also been produced for each IFSC event on YouTube, done in conjunction with digital agency partner Penceo.

This has led to 40 per cent more traffic than last year on the IFSC YouTube Channel over the first three months of the season and 30 per cent more visitors via the IFSC website.

A new mobile website accessible for smartphone users seeks to improve ease of access to IFSC news, competition results, athlete rankings and other key information.

Hundreds of athletes are now included in online athlete profiles.

These are updated regularly and include basic information, competition results, links to social media and more.

Sport climbing is one of five new sports set to be added to the Olympic programme at Tokyo 2020 subject to final approval at next month’s International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Rio de Janeiro.

Baseball and softball, karate, skateboarding and surfing should also be added.

Forty athletes are scheduled to take part in bouldering and lead and speed combined climbing events.
