Top seed Liu Shiwen beat Chinese Taipei’s Cheng I-Ching in six games to reach the quarter-finals of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Korean Open in Incheon today. 

The Chinese triumphed 11-7, 8-11, 11-4, 11-7, 11-4 against the number 13 seed and will now go on to face Singapore’s Feng Tianwei for a place in the last four.

Feng, the number five seed, accounted for South Korea's Jeon Jihee in the last 16, claiming a 6-11, 12-10, 12-10, 11-9, 13-11 win.

"I played well - usually if I play well against her I should win," said Feng.

"I am happy to again be in a Super Series quarter-final.

"I hope I can win tomorrow and keep progressing in the tournament."

Also through to the last eight is Singapore’s Yu Mengyu, the number 14 seed, who ended the run of Austria’s Liu Jia with an 11-6, 9-11, 11-7, 12-14, 11-4 victory.

Awaiting Yu in the quarter-finals is China’s Zhu Yuling, an 11-3, 11-2, 11-8,11-7 victor at the expense of compatriot Wu Yang.

In the men’s draw, Chinese Taipei’s Chen Chien-An followed up an impressive 11-5, 11-7, 6-11, 11-9, 8-11, 9-11, 15-13 victory over reigning Olympic champion Zhang Jike of China by beating South Korea's Park Ganghyeon 11-6, 14-12, 11-7, 11-7 to reach the quarter-finals.

Fellow countryman Chuang Chih-Yuan will be Chen’s next opponent after the Taiwanese overcame South Korea’s Joo Saehyuk 5-11, 16-14, 11-8, 4-11, 11-7, 2-11, 12-10 in the last-16.

China’s Xu Xin, the number three seed, advanced to the quarter-finals thanks to a 5-11, 11-3, 12-10, 11-6, 11-7 triumph over Brazil’s Cazuo Matsumoto.

Hong Kong’s Wong Chun Ting stands between Xu and the last four having come from behind to beat compatriot Tang Peng 9-11, 8-11, 9-11, 11-8 ,11-9 ,11-6 ,11-7.
