The single day event on December 17 is designed to promote American athletes in the build-up to the Pyeongchang 208 Winter Olympics, and all of the action will be televised on NBC and NBCSN.

The action will start with an International Ski Federation (FIS) Big Air Snowboarding World Cup in Copper Mountain in Colorado, with an International Luge Federation (FIL) World Cup running simultaneously in Park City in Utah.

To conclude the day, the United States women's ice hockey team will play fierce rivals Canada in Plymouth in Michigan.

“The Winter Champions Series is an opportunity to feature the great winter athletes of Team USA, many of whom are already working toward a spot on the US Olympic team that will compete in the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Games,” said Lisa Baird, USOC's chief marketing officer.

“With more than four hours on live national television, this event will thrill fans of Team USA and winter sport - and kick off the Road to Pyeongchang in grand fashion.”

The snowboarding event is set to feature top Americans Jamie Anderson, Kyle Mack and Chas Guldemond, alongside a strong field of international competitors.

Big Air will be a new event in Pyeongchang after the International Olympic Committee backed its inclusion in June 2015.

Americans to watch out for in the Luge World Cup include Sochi 2014 Olympic bronze medallist Erin Hamlin, while the ice hockey clash will once again place two fierce rivals together.

The game will be a repeat of April's World Championship final, which the Americans won 1-0 after overtime on Canadian ice in Kamloops.

The 2017 World Championships are due to be held in Plymouth, at the USA Hockey Arena which will be used for the contest.

Several Olympians are expected to appear.
