The decision to head to the 2002 Winter Olympics host was taken at this year’s Congress here and was unanimous, according to the IBSF.

The exact venue, location and dates have yet to be confirmed by the governing body, who are expected to confirm where it will take place in the near future.

It is set to be another busy agenda for the IBSF membership when they convene in Salt Lake City next year, with the vote on the awarding of the 2021 World Championships one of the key items due to be discussed.

A more detailed update concerning preparations for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang will also be given as the Congress will be held with less than a year to go until the event heads to South Korea for the first time.

Testing at the venue hit problems back in March due to a lack of ice on the track as issues with the refrigeration system meant that only the lower part of the track could be used.

A “stress test”, which will involve working on contingency plans should further problems occur, will be held at the facility next month ahead of another homologation test in October.

An IBSF Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cup, which will double as a Pyeongchang 2018 test event, is due to be staged in March.

IBSF President Ivo Ferriani, the Italian who was recently put forward to become a member of the International Olympic Committee, also says the marketing strategy of the governing body will be extensively discussed at the 2017 Congress, while further statute changes will come into force pending approval by the Member Federations.

“Next year we will expect to have more nations which have a track to bid for 2021,” he told insidethegames here.

“We will move forward with all the points we need to accomplish to improve ourselves.

“I expect to have a better position in marketing.

“We will work on a lot of different branding ideas for sliding venues and I’m excited about that.”
