A strategic paper on the development of cross-country skiing is due to be presented at the International Ski Federation’s (FIS) 50th Congress in Cancun next week.

The paper has been created ahead of the Congress, due to place from Saturday ( June 5) until June 11 at the Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun, with a focus having been placed on its values, biggest challenges and opportunities.

Delegates will discuss the proposed strategy during the meetings of the Cross-Country Committee, scheduled to be held from June 6 to 8.

The Committee will also finalise the FIS Cross-Country World Cup calendar for the forthcoming season, while planning for future years will also be high on their agenda at the meetings.

Further discussions will be held over the evolution of classic and double poling techniques, as well as determining a new system for World and Continental Cup quotas and nomination for World Cup competitions.

Rules, which will be valid for the 2016-2017 season, regarding for accommodation and travel expenses are another topic on the agenda.

Six different sub-Committees including popular skiing, roller skiing and youth and children are set to hold meetings across the three-days.

Additionally, the Cross-Country World and Continental Cup, Rules and Control, and ladies’ sub-Committees are also scheduled to meet.

A summary of the Committees’ decisions are due to  presented at the conclusion of the FIS Congress on June 11.
