Pierre Senska, a world champion in 2007, led the way by finishing first in the C1 road race, while team-mate and four-time Paralympic champion Michael Teuber claimed the time trial.

Vico Merklein was among four double winners by claiming both the road race and time trial titles in the H4 category.

Hans-Peter Durst secured the same double in the T2 class.

In the women’s events, Denise Schindler, Christiane Reppe and Andrea Eskau all won road races in their respective C3, H4 and H5 classes.

H5 Paralympic silver medallist Dorothee Vieth claimed the time trial victory.

Germany will be seeking to improve upon their fifth-placed finish on the cycling medals table at London 2012, where they won four gold, six silver and three bronze medals.

The Netherlands’ Timo Fransen and Vincent Ter Schure were others to secure a road race and time trial double, doing so in the men’s tandem-B category.

Team-mates Mischa Hielkema and Jetze Plat added two further Dutch golds in the respective H3 road race and H5 time trial events.

United States also won six gold medals, including a double for William Groulx in the H2 class.

Italy’s double Paralympic champion Alex Zanardi claimed the men’s H5 road race victory, while team-mate Francesca Porcellato earned double gold in the women’s H3 category.

Italy also won the team relay event.

Canada also claimed four gold medals, while Ireland, China, Poland, Australia, Brazil, France and Slovakia were among other nations to win gold medals.

Spain is due to host the third and final leg of the UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup between July 15 and 17.
