Turkey claimed three Rio 2016 berths on the final day of the European wrestling qualifier in Zrenjanin but had to settle for just one gold medal.

Buse Tosun and Yasemin Adar came through their respective women’s freestyle 69kg and 75kg semi-finals against Latvia’s Laura Skujina and France’s Cynthia Vanessa Vescan to secure their places at this year’s Olympics.

They had differing fortunes in the finals though with Tosun losing 9-5 against Poland’s Agnieszka Jadwiga Wieszczek-Kordus and Adar beating Ukraine’s Alla Cherkasova after her opponent pulled out through injury.

Joining the pair at Rio 2016 will be compatriot Ibrahim Bolukbasi, who lost 5-0 against Poland’s Radoslaw Baran in the men’s freestyle 97kg final after overcoming Albania’s Egzon Shala in the last four.

Ukraine’s Alen Zasieiev and Belarus’ Yusup Jalilau secured their tickets to Rio de Janeiro by reaching the men’s freestyle 125kg final and it was the former who took the gold medal with the latter unable to compete due to injury.

Estonia added two gold medals to two Olympic berths in Greco-Roman wrestling as Ardo Arusaar and Heiki Nabi won the 98kg and 130kg finals respectively.

Arusaar defeated Hungary’s Adam Varga 3-1, while Nabi overcame Germany's Eduard Popp 3-0.

With the action now complete in Serbia, attention turns to wrestling's next Rio 2016 qualifier which is due to take place in Mongolia's capital Ulaanbaatar from April 22 to 24.
