American Simone Biles marked her return to competitive action with a dominant performance as she led home a one-two from the nation to secure Pacific Rim Championships gold in the women’s individual all-around competition at the Xfinity Arena in Everett.

The 19-year-old, competing in her first event since clinching a third straight title at the 2015 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Glasgow, scored a total of 62.450 points to comfortably beat Aly Raisman to the title.

Raisman, the Olympic floor champion at London 2012, was awarded 59.900 points by the judges for her routines across the four apparatus.

Japan’s Nagi Kajita rounded off the podium as she took home the bronze medal on 55.200 points.

“This was the longest I’ve ever gone without a competition,” Biles, who will head to the Rio 2016 as the strong favourite for the Olympic gold medal, said.

“It was a little nerve-wracking, but it was good for my body.

“I know I still have things to improve on but I’m in good spot.”

It proved to be a commanding day for the American women as Biles and Raisman were among the United States team which claimed the artistic honours, along with Brenna Dowell, Laurie Hernandez, Ashton Locklear and Ragan Smith.

The formidable side recorded a formidable score of 243.200 points to top the podium in style, with Canada, comprised of Brittany Rogers, Shallon Olsen, Kirsten Peterman, Madison Copiak, Megan Roberts and Audrey Rousseau, some way adrift in silver medal position as they were given 219.100.

The Australian team of Emily Little, Georgia-Rose Brown, Emma Nedov, Rianna Mizzen, Kiara Munteanu and Larrissa Miller sealed the bronze medals on 217.850 points.

The host nation picked up another two gold medals as they continued their domination of the second day of the event, with Aliya Protto reigning supreme in the rhythmic all-around competition by virtue of scoring 67.766 points.

Protto’s team-mate Camilla Feeley earned the silver medal on 65.532 points, while bronze went to Katherine Uchida after she amassed 59.582.

The duo were also helped their country to team gold as they partnered Brigita Budginas, Heather Chan, Camilla Feeleym Nicole Kaloyanov and Lili Mizuno to the title after they scored a combined 259.813 points

Canada, whose team featured Uchida, Natali Nikolova and Cindy Huh, bagged silver on 224.059 points and China’s Yili Wang, Zhangjiayang Huang and Doudou Zhang clinched bronze with 216.779.

Canada had some individual success of their own as Samantha Smith won the trampoline competition as she was given 52.240 points for her routine.

Smith’s total saw her finish above American Shaylee Dunavin, who claimed the silver medal on 53.165 points, and Samantha Sendel, also of Canada, made it onto the podium with 52.695.

The men’s honours went the way of Russian Dmitrii Ushakov as his total of 59.970 points proved too strong for the rest of the field.

Jeffrey Gluckstein added to the American haul with silver, which came by virtue of him scoring 58.295 points, and Dylan Schmit picked up a rare medal for New Zealand as he secured the bronze medal on 57.475.

Action at the event in Washington is due to conclude tomorrow.
