Rio 2016 today launched the final set of coins commemorating this year's Olympic and Paralympic Games at a special event at the Brazilian Central Bank attended by mascots Vinicius and Tom.

The pair are among those celebrated on the R$1 (£0.17/$0.25/€0.22) coins now in general circulation in Brazil.

Boxing and Paralympic swimming are the other designs on the four new coins that will each be minted 20 million times.

Along with the circulation coins were launched five new coin designs for collectors – four silver and one gold.

The silver coins have a value of R$5 (£0.90/$1.25/€1.10) - but sell for R$195 (£34/$48/€44) - and celebrate four sports – athletics, cycling, rowing and beach volleyball on one side, and continue the theme of paying homage to Brazilian flora, fauna, architecture and music on the other, with images of a Brazilwood tree, a butterfly, Rio’s Municipal Theatre and a samba musician.

The gold coin, whose face-value is R$10 (£1.80/$2.50/€2.20) - but costs R$1,180 (£204/$293/€264) - features Christ the Redeemer on one side and the Olympic Torch on the reverse.
