The duo recorded a time of 33.14sec to finish 0.11 seconds ahead of fellow Australians Kenny Wallace and Lachlan Tame, the K2 1,000m champions. 

The body of Quick, a state champion kayaker and mother of two, was found on January 25 just 500m from where she was last seen a day earlier.

The 47-year-old is reported to have hit a tree while kayaking, causing her boat to capsize and leading to her disappearance in the rapids of the river.

"We would like to dedicate that win to the late Sue Quick who passed away a couple of weeks ago in Western Australia in a whitewater accident," said Bird.

"To the family, our thoughts are with you through at this pretty difficult time."

Callum Dunn and Ben McLean completed an all-Australian top three to take the under-23 title in 33.66.

The pair earlier secured their country two Olympic quotas after coming second in their K2 200m heat ahead of boats from New Zealand and the Cook Islands.

In the day's other action, Australia’s Murray Stewart won his second gold medal of the Championships with victory in the men’s K1 1,000m A final.

With the race doubling as the first of two Olympic selection trials, it marked an important victory for Stewart as it moves him a step closer to securing a place at Rio 2016.

The 2015 World Championship finalist got off to his trademark fast start and clocked a time of 3:29.87 to finish 3.95 seconds ahead of compatriot Jordan Wood.

Jacob Clear, Stewart’s fellow London 2012 Olympic K4 gold medallist, finished third in 3:34.05.

Australia’s Jo Brigden-Jones continued her road back from injury by winning the K1 500m event ahead of K2 team-mate Naomi Flood and countrywoman Alyssa Bull.

The second Olympic selection trial is due to take place at the National Sprint Championships in Perth from March 2 to 6.
