Host nation Singapore claimed the two sailing gold medals on offer at the ASEAN Para Games today to top the sport’s standings.

Yap Qian Yin won the women’s 2.3 event after registering the best possible score of nine points after the 10 races.

Joining her on the podium was Filipino duo Cherrie Samonte PinPin and Clytie Orencio Bernardo with 18 and 29 points respectively.

Meanwhile in the 303 event, Ten Wei Qiang Jovin and Teo Kee Lin came out on top with 14 points.

Malaysia’s Mustafah and Nurulamilin came second with 18 points, while Lim Kok Liang and Tan Kai Rong Glen, another Singaporean duo, completed the top three on 19.

Sailing table toppers Singapore finished with a haul of two golds and two bronzes, followed by Malaysia with one gold and one silver, and the Philippines with two silvers and one bronze.

Meanwhile in athletics, Thailand set three Games records on their way to winning nine gold medals today and moved to the summit overall.

Morapat Tawatchai won the men’s 200 metres T42 in a time of 28.49sec after which fellow Thai Songphinit Suphachai crossed the men’s 200m T11 finish line in 23.74.

Thailand’s third and final Games record came courtesy of Wannaruemon Kewalin, who clocked 1 min 03.17sec in the women’s 400m T11.

There was also success for Thailand on the final day of swimming action as Anchaya Ketkeaw won the women’s 200m individual medley SM9 in 2:52.56, and Panom Lagsanaprim took top honours in the men’s 200m individual medley SM11 with a time of 3:04.93.

Vietnam topped the swimming medal standings with 19 golds, the last of which was won by Vo Thanh Tung in the men’s 50m backstroke S5 with a Games record time of 41.26.  

Thailand head the overall medal standings however with 84 golds, 71 silvers and 77 bronzes, followed by Indonesia with 79 golds, 70 silvers and 61 bronzes.

Action in Singapore is due to conclude tomorrow.
