Russia beat hosts Denmark to earn a spot in the women's final at the Le Gruyere European Curling Championships in Esbjerg.

In the fourth end of the semi-final clash, Russia's skip Anna Sidorova hit-out a Danish stone to score two points and take a 3-2 lead.

Sidorova had another hit in the eighth end, this time scoring one point to take a 5-3 lead, but Denmark's skip Lene Nielsen hit-out a Russian stone in the ninth to score two points and level the game at 5-5.

Russia held last stone advantage in the decisive 10th end and it was Sidorova who played a nose-hit and stay to score the one point that gave her team a 6-5 win and a place in the final.

"I'm so proud of my team, they performed so well today," said Sidorova.

Russia now face a gold medal match against Scotland, who beat Finland in the day’s other semi-final.

The Finns took an early lead and were 5-0 up after three ends, but in the fourth, Scotland started their recovery as skip Eve Muirhead drew her final stone into the house to score three points and reduce the deficit to 5-3.

In the seventh end, another draw by Muirhead, this time scoring two points, brought the Scots level at 6-6.

They finally secured victory when Muirhead drew the last stone of the 10th end inside two Finnish stones to take one point and win 9-7.

The final is scheduled to take place on Saturday (November 28), while the bronze medal match between Denmark and Finland is set for tomorrow.

Meanwhile, in the men’s competition, defending champions Sweden overcame Scotland 8-7 in a fourth-place tiebreaker to join Norway, Finland and Switzerland in tomorrow’s semi-finals.

A 7-5 defeat for Sweden at the hands of Finland in the morning's final men's round-robin session, coupled with a 12-5 victory for Scotland against Germany, meant both teams finished on five wins out of nine.

Switzerland, 10-6 winners against The Netherlands today, and Finland also shared the same win-loss record but went straight through to the semi-finals by virtue of their superior head-to-head records.

Sweden now go on to meet the already-qualified table toppers Norway, 10-5 winners against Russia today, while Finland play Switzerland.

At the bottom end of the table, Italy beat the Czech Republic 7-6 in their eighth-place tie-breaker having earlier lost to the same opponent by the same scoreline in the final round-robin session.

Victory sees the Italians secure a place in next season's A-Division, while the Czechs are relegated to the B-Division along with bottom side The Netherlands.

Italy now face a best-of-three challenge series against the eventual B-Division winners for the last available European place in the 2016 World Men’s Curling Championship, scheduled to take place in Basel, Switzerland, from April 2 to 10.
