Hosts Denmark claimed two wins out of two on day three of the Le Gruyere European Curling Championships in Esbjerg to keep their unbeaten record intact.

Having overcome Estonia 9-7 earlier in the day, Denmark were pushed all the way by Hungary before eventually prevailing 7-5 at the Granly Hockey Arena.

In the seventh end, Hungarian skip Dorottya Palancsa scored two points with a draw-shot to reduce the Danish lead to 5-4.

In the 10th end, however, Danish counterpart Lene Nielsen drew her last stone into the house to score the two points that gave her team victory.

Like Denmark, Russia were unbeaten as they came onto the ice to face Scotland this evening after defeating Germany 9-4 in the morning session.

In the fourth end, Scottish skip Eve Muirhead had a nose-hit to score two points and level the game at 3-3.

With the score at 6-5 in her team’s favour, Russia's Anna Sidorova had to settle for just one point instead of the two she was looking for when her draw shot just failed in the ninth end.

Russia went on to win 7-6, however, when the Scots could only score one point in the 10th end, instead of the two needed to tie up the game.

Elsewhere, Norway bounced back from a 9-1 drubbing at the hands of Sweden to beat Estonia 9-6 and claim their first win, while Finland lost 8-3 to world champions Switzerland after going down 8-1 against Scotland.

Switzerland preceded their win against Finland by hammering Hungary 12-1 and in the day’s other match, Germany beat Sweden 7-4.

Meanwhile, in the third session of men’s round-robin play, Norway established themselves as outright leaders, maintaining their 100 per cent record with a comfortable win over Finland.

Norway skip Thomas Ulsrud played a gentle tap-back to score two points from the sixth end and take a 6-3 lead on the way to a 9-3 triumph.

Switzerland recorded their first win by beating Italy 8-4, as did the Czech Republic with a 5-3 success against Germany.

"I'm happy because we won the game and I'm happy we stayed alive in the last end because we didn't play so well," said Czech Republic skip David Sik.

"We feel better now, the first win is always good."

Russia claimed a 7-5 victory against The Netherlands, while defending champions Sweden defeated Scotland 9-6.

Action is due to continue in the Danish coastal town until Saturday (November 28).
