A meeting has been held between the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and the Presidents of National Federations as the country plots its preparations for Rio 2016.

The meeting was essentially an information gathering opportunity, seen as crucial in helping Ghanaian athletes prepare for next year's Olympics.

Among those present was the nation's Rio 2016 Chef de Mission Chris Essilfie. who briefed delegates on matters spanning accommodation, accreditation, arrivals and departures, doping control and medical services, sport entries, ticketing and transport.

The GOC is also expected to brief the Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as submit budget considerations for the Games at the end of the meeting.

Federation Presidents were asked to present a "probables" list of eligible candidates for the Olympics and also fill a specially designed Games Qualification Template to aid preparations towards the qualifiers for the Games.

This will help the GOC develop a master plan which will include timelines on when to expect qualification spots to be secured, it is hoped.

“It will help us know what is required or needed to aid our preparations for the Games," Essilfie said.

“The data on the probable list of athletes is needed because there will be strict guidelines in terms of capturing data.

"It is better to collate the data now to be able to monitor athlete performance across the world.”

Ghana made its Olympic debut at Helsinki in 1952 and has won a total of four medals, a silver and three bronze.

Its last medal came at Barcelona in 1992 when its men's football team won a bronze medal.

Ghana won two gold medals at this year's African Games in Brazzaville for Wisdom Na Ajdrago and George Darko in the men's doubles tennis and for the women's football team, who beat Cameroon 1-0 in the final.
