Tokyo 2020 today announced the appointment of security companies SECOM and ALSOK as Official Partners.

The two have been jointly attributed to the category "Security Services and Planning", taking the total number of Partners to 21, including seven Official Partners.

"We are delighted to welcome SECOM and ALSOK as Tokyo 2020 Official Partners in the category of 'Security Services and Planning'," said Tokyo 2020 President Yoshirō Mori.

"These private sector security companies will play a crucial role in contributing to the success of the Tokyo 2020 Games, and their addition to the Tokyo 2020 sponsorship programme is a major boost for the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee."

SECOM, a pioneer in Japan's security services industry, was established in 1962.

At the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games, it provided security services at the Olympic Village as a private security services company.

SECOM was subsequently responsible for providing security for the 1972 Winter Olympic Games in Sapporo and the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano.

As a Tokyo 2020 Official Partner, SECOM will aim to lend its support to the further development of sports in Japan and the widespread promotion of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements, and also "contribute to realising the safest and most secure Olympic and Paralympic Games ever".

"We are extremely honoured to be able to provide our services for the safe and secure hosting of the 2020 Games, as an Official Partner in the category of Security Services and Planning," said Hiroshi Ito, President of SECOM.

"At the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games, held two years after SECOM was founded, we provided security services at the Olympic Village as a private security services company and were proud to have the opportunity to contribute to the success of the Olympic Games.

"The experience and knowhow SECOM gained, as well as the trust the company earned in the process, have led to our further success.

"Building on this experience, SECOM is fully committed to contributing to the safe and secure hosting of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"In addition, SECOM will work to create innovative services that will further evolve Japan into a safe, secure, comfortable, and convenient society in 2020 and the years that follow."

Jun Murai, the founder of ALSOK, led the operations at the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games, serving as the trigger for the establishment of the firm in 1965 and the company’s management philosophy "to devote ourselves to protecting the security and safety of our customers and society as a whole".

The company’s operations include providing security for large-scale facilities and events, as well as security for homes and commercial buildings, and the secure transportation of physical cash for financial institutions.

"We are proud to contribute to Tokyo 2020 as an official partner in the Security Services and Planning category," said Yukiyasu Aoyama, President and representative director of ALSOK.

"Providing safety and security throughout Japan, ALSOK celebrated the 50th anniversary of the company’s founding this year.

"In addition, for several years we have been supporting the promotion of sports in Japan, and are delighted to have been able to contribute to the development of a number of Olympians.

"The original founder of ALSOK led the operations of the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games, and we aim to continue this tradition through efforts that will ensure that Tokyo 2020 will be 'the most innovative Olympic and Paralympic Games in history and will inspire positive change throughout the world'.

"ALSOK will provide its full support to the safety, security and success of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and forge ahead with our mission of making Japan the safest country in the world."

The Tokyo 2020 sponsorship programme is divided into four separate categories, with the International Olympic Committee’s TOP programme constituting the very highest level of sponsorship.

The worldwide TOP Partners who support the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are Coca-Cola, Atos, Bridgestone, Dow, GE, McDonald’s, Omega, Panasonic, Procter and Gamble, Samsung, Toyota and Visa.

The three other categories are designated for domestic sponsors with the highest tier made up of Gold Partners, and the second and third tiers comprised of Official Partners and Official Supporters respectively.
