The European Taekwondo Union (ETU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Europe during the latter’s Congress at the Belarusian Olympic Committee headquarters in Minsk.

Ioannis Darras, President of AIPS Europe, signed the MoU with ETU vice-president Igor Yuzefovich and AIPS Europe vice-president, Lev Rossoshik.

The MoU contains joint ventures, including the establishment of a working group with representatives from both parties.

AIPS Europe will be represented at ETU events as part of the objective of promoting and spreading taekwondo around Europe.

"This MoU constitutes our guiding principle on media relations and on the other hand provides to all media a new world to be explored," said ETU President Sakis Pragalos.

"It is significant to build our collaboration on the same basis and to provide to the European media industry the opportunity to discover and spread the world of our sport, taekwondo.

"An Olympic sport that has charmed the sports fans and needs to do the same to all the sport journalists."

Darras added: "We are happy to welcome the European Taekwondo Union to AIPS Europe by this MoU and we are confident that our collaboration will support ETU’s Championships and actions around Europe.

"It is fortunate to see the aspiration of the taekwondo European family to succeed in promotion level and we are sure that we will provide a great help."

Effie Zikouli, chairwoman of the ETU TV and Media Committee, delivered a presentation on the ETU’s history and dynamics to AIPS Europe delegates.

"It is essential to provide to the media our prospect of taekwondo and establish a common path on succeeding that," she said.

"Taekwondo is an Olympic sport with great potentials, based in ancient principles and ready to conquer the future."

The ETU opened its first regional office in Trelleborg, Sweden last December, responsible for the Scandinavian countries of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland and coordinating all ETU activities in the region.
