Two members of the IT and Communications Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) have been among a group of experts visiting Vietnam to assist with preparations for next year's Asian Beach Games.

The Games, set to take place in the two towns of Danang and Nha Trang, are scheduled to be held shortly after the Rio 2016 Olympic Games next year from September 24 to October 3.

The two OCA IT experts, Manuel Gonzalez and Alfonso Sanchez, met with Pham Van Tuan, vice-director general of the Vietnam National Sports Administration and head of the IT and Communications Committee.

They underlined the importance of cooperating on all aspects of organisation, including IT work.

IT systems were a challenge at last year's Asian Beach Games in Phuket, where there were problems with the Games-time WiFi system in many of the venues.

Tuan hopes the visit of the experts was a "good start" for implementing plans, while the OCA experts praised progress so far.

Experts from the Operations Centre, Protocol Committee, Technical Committee and the Logistics Committee, as well as from the Vietnam TV and Ssangyong group, have also visited the Southeast Asian country.

A next test for organisers will come at next week's OCA General Assembly in Ashgabat, where a progress update will be given.

The Games should mark the third multi-sports Asian-level competition to take place in Vietnam following the 2003 Southeast Asian Games and the 2009 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.

Hanoi was scheduled to host the 2019 Asian Games but withdrew in April of last year, citing "economic pressures", with Indonesian capital Jakarta now hosting them in 2018.
