Hosts England booked their place in the next round of the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Blind Football European Championships in Hereford, winning 2-0 against old foes Germany to make it three wins out of three in Group A.

Roy Turnham’s goal-of-the-tournament contender set England on their way to victory in the 16th minute, receiving the ball from a Robin Williams corner before beating three defenders and firing home.

Moments later man-of-the-match Williams was on the scoresheet himself, netting his sixth goal of the competition after another corner on the right.

The earlier match in Group A saw Italy pick up their first points in a 3-0 victory against winless Poland.

A brace from Massimo D’Attolico put the Italians 2-0 up at half-time and the win was complete shortly after the restart as Mario Zungri found the back of the net.

Meanwhile in Group B, defending champions Spain were held to a 0-0 draw by Russia with both teams maintaining unbeaten records.

This was followed by a 2-0 success for Belgium against Greece, their first of the tournament at the fourth time of asking.

Kevin Vanderborght successfully converted a six-metre penalty to break the deadlock with just 10 minutes to go and the three points were sealed shortly after when Alexandre Wespes beat Greece goalkeeper Georgios Ampatzis.

Tomorrow’s action in Group A is due to see Germany take on Italy before Turkey face England.

In Group B, Russia meet Greece following France’s encounter with Spain.
