Ghana has confirmed Chris Essilfie as its Chef de Mission for next year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Essilfie had held the same role at last year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow having been appointed following the shock resignation of  Ben Nunoo-Mensah just five months before the event started.

Ghana won two bronze medals at Glasgow 2014, Razak Abugiri in the men's 60 kilogram judo and Abdul Omar in the men's flyweight boxing.

Essilfie is a member of the Ghana Olympic Committee's Executive Board and former vice-president of the Ghana Taekwondo Association.

Essilfie, a self-employed management consultant, was educated at the University of Leicester in England and worked in London for several years in financial services.

Ghana made its Olympic debut at Helsinki in 1952 and has won a total of four medals, a silver and three bronze. 

Its last medal came at Barcelona in 1992 when its men's football team won a bronze medal.
