Giorgio Armani is set to provide clothing for Italy's team at next year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro after the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) announced it had extended its partnership with the global fashion brand.

The fashion giants, CONI’s official outfitter, kitted out Italian athletes for both London 2012 and Sochi 2014.

Giorgio Armani will supply the team with both formal and leisure wear for the Games, as well as a specially-designed suit for both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Each athlete will receive a range of different items, including tracksuits, waterproof jackets, cargo shorts and polo shirts which will be emblazoned with the words “Fratelli d’Italia”, meaning “Brothers of Italy”.

They will also be given running shoes in two different colours, white and blue and in the colours of the Italian flag, which include the latest carbon cushion control technology.

The tracksuits for the podium feature “Italia” in capital letters across the back, with the first verse of the Italian national anthem, “Il Canto Degli Italiani", inscribed in gold on the lining of the jackets.

Italian athletes’ polo shirts will also include the opening lines of the anthem underneath the collar.

The items will come in Armani’s trademark dark blue and will feature the new CONI logo, launched last year to celebrate the organisation’ centenary, as well as the word “Italia” and the EA7 emblem in embossed gold.

The clothing range that will be worn by the Italian team at the Olympic and Paralympic Games is due to go on sale in stores from March next year.

The 2016 Olympic Games in the Brazilian city are due to begin on August 5 and scheduled to last until August 21.

The Paralympic Games are due to open on September 7 and end on September 18.
