The Nigerian-born sprinter, who has represented Qatar since 2010 and returned from a two-year doping ban last year, had lived up to his billing as favourite for title throughout the competition, having set a Championship record time of 9.97sec in the semi-final, to qualify fastest.

Ogunode lowered the mark to 9.91sec in the final to comfortably claim gold ahead of China’s Zhang Peimeng and Iran’s Reza Ghazemi who claimed silver and bronze, posting times of 10.15 and 10.19sec respectively.

In addition to Ogunode’s triumph, Qatar claimed a further two titles with Abdelalelah Haroun continuing his excellent form in the 400m this season by taking gold in 44.68sec and was followed home by Saudi Arabia’s Yousef Ahmed Masrahi in 45.14sec.

Japan’s Kentaro Sato completed the podium positions in 46.09sec.

Having won the 1500m title on the opening day, Moroccan-born Qatari Mohamed Al Garni set a Championship record of 13:34.47 on route to the 5,000m title.

He saw off competition from Bahrain’s Albert Rop who claimed silver by posting a time of 13:35.26, while India’s Govindan Lakshmanan lowered his personal best by 14sec to take bronze in 13:36.62.

Betlhem Desalegn replicated Al-Garni’s achievement in the women’s event, as the United Arab Emirates’ runner earned her second gold of the Championships in 15:25.15, finishing three seconds ahead of her compatriot Aliamohmmed Mohmmedsaeed.

For the second successive day China were the most successful nation with Yang Huizhen crowned women’s 400m champion after posting a time of 52.37sec, while both the men’s and women’s 4x100m relay teams earned gold in 39.04sec and a Championship record time of 43.10sec respectively.

China’s filed athletes also starred on the second day of competition in Wuhan as Su Xinyue threw 63.90m to defend her discus title, ahead of team mates Tan Jian and Lu Xiaoxin who recorded distance of 62.97 and 62.30m respectively.

Gao Xinglong added to the Chinese medal tally as his 7.96m leap saw him claim a comfortably victory in the long jump, while Zhang Wei's effort of 5.60m saw him secure the pole vault title ahead of Japan’s Seito Yamamoto.

Japan's Chisato Fukushima clinched the women’s 100m title in 11.23sec, Tajikistan's three-time Asian Games champion Dilshod Nazarov earned the women’s hammer title with a throw of 77.68m.

Uzbekistan’s Ekaterina Voronina's points total of 5,689 proved enough to seal heptathlon gold.
