Brazilian teenager Petrucio Ferreira dos Santos stunned T47 200 metres Paralympic and world champion Yohansson Nascimento on the second day of International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Grand Prix, positing a world record time in front of a home crowd in São Paulo.

The hosts enjoyed a superb opening day of the Grand Prix and the 18-year-old ensured the success continued by producing a blistering performance to take 0.25 seconds off the previous record, finishing in 21.49sec.

Veronica Hipolito, also a teenager, matched Dos Santos’ level of performance by winning the T38 women’s race in 28.33, while two of Brazil’s more established names continued the country’s dominance in the sprint events.

Terezhina Guilhermina, fresh from training with Usain Bolt, took gold in the women’s T11 event in 25.06, while 200m T11 Paralympic champion in the men’s T43, Alan Fonteles Oliveira, added to his silver medal in the 100m by clinching gold over the 200m in 22.63.

"I am feeling a little bit tired due to the events I ran yesterday,” Oliveira said.

"I am working right now with my coach, increasing the workload in a timely manner.

“Right now, we are focusing on my start.

“I think I will be okay to go to the Parapan Games [in Toronto]."

Felipe Gomes and Rodrigo Parreira da Silva added to the hosts tally in the T11 and T36 men’s races.

But South Africa also enjoyed a multitude of successes in the 200m races.

Ilse Hayes, fresh from becoming the world’s fastest female Para-athlete by breaking the 100m record yesterday, earned victory in the T13 race, in 24.70.

Hayes’ performance was followed Anrune Liebenberg earning victory in the T47 women's 200m in 26.19, while Jonathan Ntutu, Fanie van der Merwe and Dyan Buis triumphed in the men’s T12, T37 and T38 races.

While Brazil and South Africa dominated the 200m events, with the exception of the women’s T12 event won by Cuba's Omara Durand, there was a wider spread of winners in the 800m and field events.

Ecuadorian 21-year-old Darwin Castro claimed victory in the men's T11 800m, while Angola’s Alberto Lussasse and Venezuela's Juan Ramon Hernandez won the T46 and T54 classifications events respectively by posting times of 2min 04.06sec and 1:37.16 respectively.

Venezuela also earned two golds in the javelin, with Dionny Ramirez throwing 37.91 metres in the F11 class to take the Grand Prix title, before his compatriot Edwars Valera set an Americas record with a throw of 45.44m in the F37.

There were also victories for Syria’s Mohamad Mohamad in the men’s F57 javelin and Brazilian trio Brendow de Souza, Roseane Ferreira dos Santos and Paulo Moreira de Souza.
