The logo includes a series of elements representing host nation Qatar with a sharp shape of a boxer serving as a central element and representing the shape of the country's flag centre.

The burgundy and white colours are traditionally Qatari, while yellow represents the country’s sand.

Doha was awarded the hosting rights to the amateur boxing showpiece, scheduled to take place from October 5 to 18, after seeing off rival bidder Bangkok at AIBA's Executive Committee meeting in July 2013.

“I am really happy with the 2015 World Boxing Championships logo as it truly represents Qatar and the country’s aspiration to successfully host such high profile sports events as 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships,” said Yousuf Ali Al-Kazim, chairman of the Local Organising Committee.

A test event is due to be held at the state-of-the-art Ali Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah Arena from May 19 to 24, featuring more than 100 boxers from across Asia.

“We have our Organising Committee working round the clock to complete our preparations for the test event,” Al-Kazim, also President of the Qatar Boxing Federation, told The Peninsula Qatar.

“The test event will be a dress rehearsal for the World Championships to be held later in October.”

A total of 65 countries have confirmed their participation at the Championships up until now, with the final tally to be announced in August.

They will act as a qualifier for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, offering as many as 23 places across 10 weight categories. 

“I am delighted to see that the preparations for the AIBA World Boxing Championships are moving at full speed,” said AIBA President C K Wu.

“I am very much looking forward to one of the most exciting events in the boxing calendar.”

The 2015 World Boxing Championships is one in a long line of events Qatar is due to host in the coming years, including the 2015 International Paralympic Committee Athletics World Championships, the 2016 International Cycling Union Road World Championships and the 2022 FIFA World Cup
