Baku 2015 has announced Australian-based Seven Network as the latest broadcaster which will provide coverage of the inaugural European Games, due to take place in the Azerbaijani capital from June 12 to 28.

Seven Network is considered to be one of the leading broadcast companies in Australia and the deal brings the total amount of countries who will be able to watch live television coverage of the Games across the world to 57.

The broadcaster is set to supply daily coverage of the event to around 8.4 million homes in the country, and the agreement marks another landmark for Baku 2015.

Broadcast deals have already been signed for the Games to be covered in the United States, Canada, China and India as well as parts of the Arab world, while more are expected to be announced in the lead-up to the multi-sport event.

There are, notably, still no television deals announced for Britain or Russia.

“The Seven Network is an established and respected Olympic broadcaster, and their commitment to the European Games underlines that this is the most important addition to the international sporting calendar for decades,” Baku 2015 chief operating officer Simon Clegg said.

The Australian Network, who also provide coverage of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, has been the country’s highest-rated channel since 2007 and Seven’s head of sport Saul Shtein is looking forward to working with Baku 2015.

“As a network we are determined to bring the biggest events in sports to our audiences in Australia,” he said.

“We see the European Games as a natural fit with our long-term commitment to the Olympic Games and our recent agreement to also broadcast the Paralympic Games.

“We are honoured to be the network of the first European Games.

“We are proud of our long partnership with the IOC and the Olympic movement, and we look forward to our partnership with Baku 2015.”
