A management structure of the Olympic TV Channel has also been agreed since it was approved as part of the Agenda 2020 recommendations unanimously rubber-stamped at the IOC Session in Monte Carlo last December.

Hiring of key management positions on the channel will now go ahead both for the operations in Madrid and in Lausanne for coordination with the IOC.

Precise details still have to be revealed but the promotion of Miró is the most concrete change announced today.

Under his new role, the Spaniard will assist and provide "strategic counsel" to the IOC's President Thomas Bach and director general Christophe de Kepper in strengthening relations with the Olympic Movement.

He will also take on a "coordinating role and overall view of all subsidies given from the IOC to the rest of the Movement".

But the official will also continue in his current duties as director for both for Olympic Solidarity and the NOCs (National Olympic Committees) Relations Department, both of which he has served since 1997.

Miró, who hails from a Catalan village close to Barcelona and has worked for the IOC since 1992, has been closely involved in many key decisions since Bach assumed the Presidency in 2013.

This included the decision last year to accept Kosovo as a member of the IOC, with Miró having worked closely with Kosovo Olympic Committee President Besim Hasani for a number of years before that decision was made.

Among other changes announced, the role of British communications director Mark Adams will "evolve to giving closer support to the President in the day to day execution of his duties and as Presidential spokesman", it was confirmed.

This comes after Adams, already a regular presence alongside Bach on many of his international visits, presented a new plan for strategic communications with the aim of "linking the power of the Olympic Rings and the Olympic Games to the IOC".

This strategy would also aim to amplify the IOC's central purpose of putting sport at the service of humanity, it was explained, with the structure of the Communications department to be "looked at with the plan to strengthen strategic and brand communication".

The International Cooperation and Development Department will also be renamed the Department for Social Development through Sport and Public Affairs.

A Department for Corporate Development, Brand and Sustainability will be set up, with Marie Sallois Dembreville, formerly IOC Head of Corporate Development, to become a director.

A new position of ethics and compliance officer will also be assigned to IOC Ethics Commission secretary Pâquerette Girard Zappelli.
