La Molina will host the 2015 Para-Snowboard World Championships from February 23 to 28 ©La MolinaRepresentatives of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Alpine Skiing governing body have claimed preparations for the 2015 IPC Para-Snowboarding World Championships in La Molina, Spain, are "progressing well."

The Spanish resort, which will stage the competition from February 23 to 28, has been suffering challenging warm weather conditions lately, causing the IPC to put in a contingency plan which includes the possibility of having 14,000 cubic metres of snow deployed onto the courses.

However everything else that is needed to ensure the event runs smoothly is either on schedule or has been finalised, according to Head of IPC Snowsports Dimitrije Lazarovski.

"Considering the challenges that the weather is posing at the moment, in common with a lot of European resorts, the Organising Committee have done a great job in putting everything in place," he said.

"The schedule has been confirmed for some time and there is some flexibility within the current dates to move things around if we need to.

"We have also been assured that there are 14,000 cubic metres of snow ready to be deployed onto the courses should there not be enough.

"However we are monitoring the situation closely and temperatures have begun to drop."

Despite the issues to date, Lazarovski remains confident that the event will be a huge success.

"Everything else is ready or in progress - accommodation, transport, media, broadcasting, and ceremonies, ready to welcome athletes, teams and spectators, who can see all the competitions for free every day," he added.

La Molina is set to welcome around 80 athletes from 20 different nations and will feature a range of events such as banked slalom and snowboard-cross in SB-LL1, SB-LL2 and upper-limb impairment classifications.

These particular events were added to the calendar following the successful debut of Para-snowboarding at the widely-heralded Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi last year.
