Keshorn Walcott has been named Trinidad and Tobago's Sportsman of the Year ©Getty ImagesKeshorn Walcott and Cleopatra Borel captured the 2014 Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee's (TTOC) Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards at the annual awards ceremony.

Held at the National Academy for the Performing Arts in the Trinidad and Tobago capital, Port-of-Spain, the awards ceremony recognised the performances of some its best athletes over the 2014 season.

Reigning Olympic champion Walcott, who became the first black athlete to win an Olympic throwing gold medal when he took top honours in the javelin at London 2012, was back to his best in 2014 as he threw a personal best 85.77 metres at the Diamond League meet in Zurich, Switzerland.

The 2012 Junior World Championships gold medallist also secured gold at the Continental Championships in Marrakech, Morocco, after taking silver at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Borel continued to excel at the top of her sport in 2014 after finishing second in the shot put at the Commonwealth Games.

The three-time Olympian also took gold at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Veracruz, Mexico.

Meanwhile, 400 metres runner Machel Cedenio and 100m specialist Aaliyah Telesford took the honours of Junior Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year.

Cedenio won 400m gold at the World Junior Championships in Oregon, while Telesford claimed gold in 100m and 4x100m relay at the CAC Junior Championships in Morelia.

The annual awards ceremony also saw George Bovell III win the Sports Personality of the Year after the swimmer took a gold and bronze at the CAC Games.

Former national football coach Bertille St Clair claimed the coveted Alexander B Chapman Award for contribution to sport and Olympism.
