New elections have been held by the Kenya National Paralympic Committee in Nairobi ©KNPCAgnes Oluoch has been elected chairman of the Kenya National Paralympics Committee (KNPC) after an "all-inclusive" election at the Kenyan National Sports Council Boardroom in Nairobi.

Oluoch, the KNPC treasurer, who finished eighth in the women's F32–34/52/53 shot put at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games, comfortably defeated former chairman Douglas Sidialo and Stanley Mutuma in the elections.

This comes after months of feud within the KNPC, after disputed elections in March in which a Mutuma-led faction had taken the Federation to court after Oluoch was elected.

A ban was threatened by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), before the Kenyan Government stepped in to call for fresh and "inclusive" elections.

But IPC Board member and former KNPC chairman Jairus Mogalo has now praised the organisation for "putting its house in order" ahead of Rio 2016, calling for other nations to follow the African country's lead.

Oluoch claimed afterwards it would mark a "new dawn" for the body, before adding that her administration would be "all-inclusive".

At the elections, Denis Muga and Patrick Muthiani were nominated as first and second vice-chair, while General Elijah Mwandihi was appointed secretary general.

John Tita was elected treasurer, while Rose Chesang will become women's representative.

Kenya won six medals at the London 2012 Paralympics, all in athletics, with Samwel Kimani and Abraham Tarbei claiming gold in their respective T11 and T54 1,500 metre events.

But they drew a blank at this year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where the African nation sent only Para-sport 20 athletes to the Scottish city, rather than the 32 they were entitled to, because 12 had not been officially classified by the IPC.
