President of Gwangju 2015 and former Prime Minister of South Korea, Kim Hwang-sik, addressed members of the FISU Executive Committee, who are in the Universiade's host city for a two-day meeting which started yesterday.

During the first day, FISU President Claude-Louis Gallien, reported on the reform of statutes and regulations of the Federation, while secretary general Eric Saintrond, provided an update on the past and future events of FISU and on the daily management of its secretariat.

"I was thrilled when Gwangju was selected as the host city for the 2015 Summer Universiade and therefore accepted the position of President with honour and excitement," said Kim

"Together with the members of the Organising Committee, we will put forward all sports event organisation capacities of Korea, and guarantee a Universiade that will make a monumental impact in the world of University sports."

A Memorandum of Understanding for the FISU Conference, which will be held from July 11 to 14, 2015, in conjunction with the Games, under the theme "The impact of University sport on the globabl community", was signed by Kim and Gallien.

Several other smaller meetings were also held between Gwangju 2015 and various representatives of FISU.

After all the sessions, Executive Committee members were treated to a tour of some of the venues that will be utilised for the Games next year, including the main stadium for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Today, future host cities of the Universiade, namely Granada in Spain, Taipei in Taiwan, Almaty in Kazakhstan, Brasília in Brazil and Krasnoyarsk in Russia will give progress reports on their preparations.
