Kayla Clarke came out on top in a thrilling race against team mate Taylor Corry ©Getty ImagesAustralia's Kayla Clarke and Taylor Corry matched each other stroke for stroke in a thrilling women's 100 metres freestyle S14 final with Clarke awarded the win after a photo-finish on the final day of action at the Pan Pacific Para-Swimming Championships in Pasadena.

Clarke touched home in 1min 02.35sec, just 0.01 ahead of her compatriot after a thrilling last 50m saw both swimmers battling each other for the gold.

That was the first of two gold medals on the day for Clarke at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Centre as she also claimed the 100m breaststroke S14 crown ahead of Canadian Justine Morrier and Mexcio's Mariana Diaz de la Vega.

Madeleine Scott took the women's 100m breaststroke SB9 title in another exciting finish as she touched home ahead of Argentina's Daniela Gimenez to secure another gold for the Australians which followed compatriot Ahmed Kelly's win in the men's 50m breaststroke SB3 race in an Oceania record of 50.88.

The green and gold topped the podium again as they took the win in the men's 4x100m 34 point freestyle relay ahead of Brazil and the United States.

There was further home success to delight fans in California and the US charge was led by multi-Paralympic and world champion Jessica Long who picked up two more titles winning the women's 100m freestyle S8 and 100m breaststroke SB7 respectively.

Cortney Jordan added another gold medal to her count when she swam to a 1:13.90 victory in the S7 race, while Rebecca Meyers secured her fourth title in Pasadena in the 100 freestyle S13.

Meyers had to make do with silver in the 100m breaststroke behind compatriot Colleen Young while Michelle Konkoly was the champion in the 100m freestyle S9.

Konkoly was back in the water later on to anchor the US side as they overcame Australia and Canada to take the women's 4x100m 34 point freestyle relay.

"Coming home in that relay, to be honest, I wasn't sure where we were going to be by the end," said Konkoly, who came from behind to overtake Australia's Scott in the last leg.

"In the medley, Australia were so far ahead of us.

"When I dove in, I knew it was close.

"I could see I was passing their girl on the first 50.

"I just gave it everything I had and left it all in the pool."

Australia came second in the men's 4x50m 20 point medley relay also, but this time it was Brazil who took the honours with the US in third.

That win helped Brazil to finish third overall on the medal table behind the big guns of the US and Australia who emerged as the top nation with 96 medals, including 55 gold.
