Globosat will broadcast a host of swimming championships across Brazil for seven years from 2015 ©Getty ImagesA seven-year deal has been signed by the International Swimming Federation (FINA) that secures broadcasting rights across Brazil for a host of its key competitions.

Globosat has partnered up with FINA in a deal that will run from next year until 2022.

It coveres the FINA World Championships in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021; the FINA World Swimming Championships (25 metres) in 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2022; the FINA Diving World Cup in 2018, 2020 and 2022; and the FINFA Synchronised Swimming World Cup in 2018 and 2022.

"Brazil is a very solid FINA partner and its importance in the aquatic world is reinforced by this partnership," said FINA President Dr Julio C. Maglione.

"Rio de Janeiro will stage in 2016 the Olympic Games and the added-value our aquatic disciplines are bringing to the programme of the Games will create a renovated dynamic of our sport in this immense country.

"This is why FINA highly considers and values this agreement with Globosat, a highly respected media network in Brazil."

Globosat is a cable and satellite TV service that launched in 1991and has its headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.

Pedro Garcia, SporTV Channels business director, said: "The transmission of the next four FINA Championships as well as the next four FINA Swimming World Championships (25m) draws a lot of interest from the public and complements our events portfolio which today amounts to more than 5,000 hours of live transmissions each year.

"Furthermore, we can now provide a consistent offering of water sports content in our channels."
