FINA has introduced a new General Management System to help coordinate events and administration procedures ©Getty ImagesThe International Swimming Federation (FINA) has today launched a new General Management System (GMS) in an attempt to streamline event management processes and administration procedures for its main events.

The FINA GMS has a custom designed database at its core which enables a transfer of knowledge and information from event to event, leading to a simplified coordination between FINA and its Organising Committees, which the governing body says will enhance the value of its competitions.

The system was designed in partnership with Omega.

The objective is for FINA to provide a consistent tool for its Member Federations to easily enter their athletes and team officials on a 24/7 basis and also for event organisers to manage key event operational data.

"Over the many years working with Omega, we always had a reliable, cooperative and efficient partner next to us, capable of bringing maximum satisfaction to all those participating and organising FINA events", said FINA President Dr Julio C. Maglione.

"Omega is a worldwide well-known and respected brand and this common project demonstrate FINA's will in staying associated with a partner also actively engaged in the development of the aquatic sports."

GMS will be first used for the FINA World Swimming Short-Course Championships and FINA World Aquatics Convention in Doha, Qatar, in December.

The system will be gradually introduced into more FINA events from 2015, including the FINA World Championships and FINA World Masters Championships in Kazan, Russia.
