The 6,000-capacity Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park facility - host of the Olympic track cycling competition in which Britain won seven gold medals from 10 events and 18 medals, including five gold, at the Paralympics - is due to have its formal launch on March 12.

It will include the London 2012 Velodrome, the remodelled Olympic BMX track, a one-mile (1.6 kilometre) flood-lit road circuit and five miles (8km) of mountain biking trails, making it the only venue in the world to offer these four disciplines in one place.

"The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games inspired a new generation of cycling enthusiasts," Shaun Dawson, chief executive of Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, said.

"Lee Valley VeloPark will build on the legacy of the Games and will give the public a unique chance to cycle at the same venue as the world's best athletes.

"With bookings open today it has brought all the hard work since 2012 to life."

The VeloPark has already secured the hosting rights for the International Cycling Union (UCI) Track Cycling World Championship in 2016, while the grand finale of the Revolution Series will be the first major event to be held at the venue since the London Olympic and Paralympic Games when it takes place on March 14 and 15 this year.

The facility will also host the cycling element of the biennial Sport Relief charity event, which will be the first mass participation event to be held there.

Public sessions for people of all abilities will also begin at the VeloPark on March 31, with women's sessions, tasters for disability cycling and tandem rides for the visually impaired among the options on offer.
