January 9 - Qatar 2015 has been unveiled as an official sponsor of the 2014 Men's European Handball Championships in Denmark ©AFP/Getty ImagesOrganisers of the 2015 International Handball Federation (IHF) Men's Handball World Championships in Qatar have been announced as official sponsors of the 2014 Men's European Handball Championships due to get underway this weekend in Denmark.

Under the deal, Qatar will promote its event during the two-week flagship tournament of the European Handball Federation (EHF) which takes place in the Gigantium, Aalborg; NRGi Arena, Arhus; Jyske Bank Boxen, Herning and the Brøndby Hall in Copenhagen from January 12 to 26.

The 24th Men's World Championships next year – the first to be staged in Qatar - will receive extensive promotion and presentation opportunities across the four Danish venues during Euro 2014.

This will include comprehensive advertising exposure in camera view across state-of-the-art LED boards, static boards and floor signage as well as online exposure on the Euro 2014 website.

"The current sponsorship agreement helps us to directly reach out to the European handball family, in order to enhance awareness about the 2015 Men's Handball World Championship and increase the level of the Euro 2014 fans engagement," said Dr Thani Abdulrahman Al Kuwari, director general of the Qatar 2015 Organising Committee.

"Fans are welcomed to come and visit Qatar and experience a unique and unforgettable Men's Handball World Championship in a warm and friendly environment, in one of world's leading sport destinations."

Next year's World Championships is due to take place across four venues in the Qatari capital Doha and run from January 17 to February 1.

The new sponsorship agreement was secured by media and marketing partner of the EHF, Infront Sports & Media in conjunction with EHF Marketing GmbH, the marketing arm of the EHF.

"This agreement, bringing the flagship competition in Europe together with its global counterpart, is beneficial for both sides – and mostly for the sport of handball," said Stephan Herth., executive director of summer sports at Infront Sports & Media.

"Being now represented with the AspireInfront subsidiary in Qatar, we are well set to develop further opportunities to connect the global sports community with the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) region."

A total of 16 teams will be competing for the European Championship crown currently held by host nation Denmark, who will face stiff competition from the likes reigning world champions Spain and current Olympic gold medallists France.
