Santa and his helpers took to the streets of Glasgow city centre to let the public know that they can still buy tickets to watch six of the 17 sports taking place, while there are also a limited number of tickets remaining for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Tickets are still available for badminton at the Emirates Arena, lawn bowls at the Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre, rugby sevens at Ibrox Stadium, squash at the Scotstoun Sports Campus, weightlifting at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) Precinct, and for boxing which also takes place at the SECC with the finals to be held at the SSE Hydro arena.

Ticket prices start from £15 ($24.50/€18) for adults while half price concession tickets for under 16s and over 60s are available from £7.50 ($12.25/€9).

Last month, Glasgow 2014 organisers revealed over 90 per cent of the one million tickets available for the Games had been sold, claiming that more than 2.3 million requests were received during the initial four-week application window which ran from August 19 to September 16.

In October, a special six-day sales window was created for those fans who were unsuccessful on tickets first time round, with the first two days exclusively open to those who missed out altogether, the second two days open to those who secured some of their initial requests while the final two days were open to all applicants.

Organisers revealed 60 per cent of tickets sold were priced at £25 ($40/€30) or under, with 22 per cent being sold to under 16s or over 60s, while it is also claimed that 11 of the 17 sports on the Games programme have been sold out.

"Being part of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games will be a unique once in a lifetime experience and what sports fan wouldn't want a ticket to watch world class sport involving top athletes from across the Commonwealth," said Ty Speer. deputy chief executive of Glasgow 2014.

"We're delighted to say there are still limited tickets available for anyone who wants to join us and experience great sport in Glasgow next summer."

Remaining tickets are now on general sale to members of the public on a first-come-first-serve basis and are available by visiting the Glasgow 2014 ticketing website or via Glasgow 2014 24-hour Ticket Hotline 0844 826 2014.
