Nunn takes over the role from Kate McLoughlin, the first female Chef de Mission appointed by the APC, but announced earlier this month that she was stepping down from the position due to family commitments.

Nunn, 58, has over 30 years of administrative and coaching experience in high performance sport and is the APC's current coach performance manager.

"Chris has worked closely with our winter squad over the past year and coupled with his expertise gained over three decades and six Paralympic Games, he is well equipped to do an outstanding job in creating the optimal performance environment," said APC chief executive Jason Hellwig.

"We're in the position of being able to appoint someone with Chris's specialist area of knowledge because of the work that has already been done under the leadership of Kate McLoughlin, our general manager of teams and events.

"The advanced level of operational planning and preparation has put us in fantastic shape and allows Chris to come on board and focus fully on helping this team win medals."

The Victorian has vast experience in Australian Paralympic sport having been involved with the athletics squad at a number of summer Games, beginning at Seoul 1988 and he was named as head coach of the athletics team at Sydney 2000.

He was also head of coach services at Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

Nunn will be looking to improve on Australia's 16th place finish at Vancouver 2010 where the squad picked up one silver and three bronze medals.
