Three time Olympic medallist Roberto Cammarelle blue was back in the ring today fighting Tony Yoka of France on day six of the World Boxing Championships in AlmatyOctober 19 - English boxer Joseph Joyce was on the wrong end of a shock at the World Boxing Championships as he was beaten in the first round of his opening bout at the Baluan Sholak Palace of Culture and Sport in Almaty.

The super heavyweight would have fancied his chances when he was drawn against Algerian Hamza Beguerni, competing in his first ever World Championships.

Things did not go as planned for the former British Lionhearts star, however, as his largely unknown opponent came flying out of the blocks in the opening round.

Beguerni caught Joyce with a number of huge blows, forcing two standing eight counts within the first minute of the fight, before one explosive right hook left the arena rocking and sealed the Algerian's first victory of the Championships with 1min 37sec still remaining in the round.

"I prepared hard for this," said Beguerni, who will face the Ukraine's Iegor Plevako in the next round.

"It's my first World Championships and he is a good boxer so I am happy about that,"

The loudest cheers of the day came in the opening fight which saw Kazakhstan's and number one seed Birzhan Zhakypov take on Russia's Belak Galanov at light flyweight.

Fans were chanting 10 minutes before the boxers had even entered the ring with the noise becoming almost deafening as the two fighter made their way to centre stage.

As the bout began you could see what all the excitement was about they set about the fight at an absolutely frantic pace with each looking to not only win the fight, but win it overwhelmingly.

All three rounds saw a barrage of heavy punches and frequent tie ups but it was the home boxer who eventually came out on top, taking a three 3-0 victory after capitalising on his fading rival towards the end of the final round.

Bantamweight's number one seed, Robeisy Carrazana, was also in action today and looked sublime in his victory over Jiawei Zhang of China.

The Cuban looked as comfortable as you can get in a World Championships, hardly needing to move from second gear as he cruised to victory.

Zhang was working hard throughout the fight but could not seem to land a punch on Carrazana who was throwing around one punch to each of his opponents five.

Zhang look absolutely exhausted coming to his corner after the second round and must have been horrified to see the grin etched across Carrazana' face as they faced off for the final three minutes.

The Cuban advanced to the next round with a clear 3-0 and looks to be a firm favourite to take home the title.

Aram Avagyan is proving to be the scourge of WSB boxers in this competition, defeating Jahyn Parrinello of the Dolce & Gabbana Italia Thunder in today's second bantamweight encounter.

The Armenian, who beat British Lionheart Gamal Yafai in the last round, was at his best again landing a huge right hand to drop his Italian opponent to his knees in the opening round.

Avagyan continued to impress for the rest of the bout taking an important 3-0 win to move him into the next round of the tournament.

"It was very hard in there," he said

"He was a very strong boxer."
