Bosnia were always the strong favourites after London, where they lost just one set in the final against Iran en route to the gold medal.

This time around they went one better in winning the final 3-0 against Russia, after Germany repeated their London 2012 bronze medal winning exploits by ousting Ukraine in the third place playoff by another 3-0 margin.

Unsurprisingly, the gold medal winners dominated the individual accolades for the tournament, with Safet Alibašić named the best spiker of the tournament and Adnan Kešmer named Best Libero.

Russia's Viktor Milenin was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP).

There was much more for the Russians to smile about on the women's side when the team took the gold medal after a thrilling roller coaster of a final with Ukraine.

Ukraine started the better to win the first game and then, after being pegged back in the second, won a nailbiter of a third.

The Russians, however, restored parity in the fourth before taking the decider 15-10 and winning the overall match 3-2.

Russia also achieved a clean sweep of the individual awards courtesy of Irina Smirnova, who was named Best Blocker, and Tatiana Ivanova, who was awarded both the MVP and the Best Setter awards.

Slovenia defeated the Netherlands 3-2 for the bronze medal in a competition where nine countries participated in comparison with 13 on the men's side.
