England's women have booked their place at the 2013 EuroHockey FinalAugust 22 - England's women have reached their first EuroHockey Championship in 22 years thanks to a 3-2 win against reigning Olympic champions the Netherlands in a dramatic penalty shootout.

A goal from Dutch London 2012 and Beijing 2008 gold medallist Eva de Goede accompanied by an own goal from her world number one side saw the game finish in a 1-1 draw in Boom, Belgium.

But penalties from England's Helen Richardson and Alex Danson, coupled with an outstanding effort from Maddie Hinch in goal, secured the win - and a place in the final

England head coach Jason Lee claimed he is confident his squad can produce another winning performance to take their first major title since 1991 in the final against Germany on Saturday (August 24).

"I think the girls played brilliantly," he said.

"I know we've had an up and down tournament, but I felt confident that they had some really strong performances in them and I think we showed that tonight.

"I've experienced something with these girls since I've been in charge, which I've been in awe of - they have a fantastic level of ability and the work ethic they have as a team is brilliant.

"Coming into this game I felt really excited to be with this group in a semi-final against Holland because I know we could do something special.

"I also think we're in a great place to go and take the title now as well."

It was also a penalty shootout that decided England's final opponents.

Germany beat tournament hosts Belgium 2-0 in the shootout after their semi-final finished in a 2-2 draw when the Belgians came from a goal behind to lead 2-1 before Marie Mävers equalised with just two minutes to go to send the game to penalties.

Goals from Maike Stöckel and Julia Müller ensured that Germany made it to their fifth successive European final.

The Netherlands and Belgium will battle it out for the bronze medal in their match, which also takes place on Saturday ahead of the final.
