August 12 - The China Swimming Association (CSA) and international swimming equipment supplier Speedo have agreed a new partnership which will see the country's competitors sponsored by the firm up to and including the 2017 FINA World Championships in Guadalajara.
The new agreement builds on the partnership between the CSA and Speedo, which began in 2009, and will see all members of the Chinese team wear Speedo swimwear and equipment in allcompetitions and related events for the next four years.
At the recent World Championships in Barcelona, members of the Chinese team including gold medallists Sun Yang, Liu Zige and Zhao Jing wore a range of Speedo products on their way to winning gold, which included the Speedo Fastskin LZR Racer Elite 2 swimsuit, national team branded Speedo Fastskin3 caps and limited edition Speedo Fastskin3 Elite goggles in Chinese red and white.
Sun added to his two Olympic gold medals from London 2012 by adding three more world titles in the 400 metres, 800m and 1500m freestyle while Liu and Zhao claimed gold in the women's 200m butterfly and 50m backstroke respectively.
As part of the deal, the China Swimming Association will also promote Speedo products and host a sales booth at its events, while athletes will take part in team appearances and media activity on behalf of the company for the duration of the agreement.
"The China swimming team is one of the most formidable forces in world swimming, and Speedo is delighted to extend its agreement with the China Swimming Association," said Sean Hastings, vice-president of product and marketing for Speedo International.
"The team has already achieved some great results at the 15th FINA World Championships in Barcelona, and we're certain that they will enjoy yet more success wearing Speedo swimwear in the months and years to come."
