International Boxing Association (AIBA) President C K Wu said London yesterday that although the Amateur Boxing Association of England (ABAE) is currently on a provisional suspension he will not stop the nation's athletes from competing in major events - something Caborn (pictured top) was not expecting.

"We have been told by AIBA that there will be no contact with any officials of ABAE until the Disciplinary Committee has made a decision," the former British Sports Minister told insidethegames.

"The statement by C K was a surprise.

"We have submitted a very robust response to the allegations being made.

"We have sent all the evidence there, some 46 pages of evidence.

"That's all been sent to the chair of the Disciplinary Committee and we have been told that we can make no further contact until the Disciplinary Committee has made its decision.

"We have applied twice now to be able to get out boxers to box - the schoolboys which we applied ourselves then we asked the BOA (British Olympic Association) to apply for the youths and they've been refused.

"They have been refused on this and every other occasion.

"There was a blanket ban on the BOA applying for dispensation for our boxers to box internationally."


The decision to hand ABAE with a provisional suspension, which was unanimously agreed by AIBA's Executive Committee last month, came as a result of Sport England's input in the development of ABAE's new constitution and the blocking of World Series of Boxing (WSB) fighters from competing at national events.

Therefore, English amateur boxers, coaches and officials are currently prohibited from participating at AIBA and confederation competitions under the ABAE flag.

English boxers have already missed the chance to compete at the European Youth Championships, currently taking place in Rotterdam.

Wu has claimed that he hopes to resolve the matter "as soon as possible".
