Gábor BoczkóAugust 11 - The home team struck gold at the World Fencing Championships today, as the Hungarian quartet battled their way to victory over Ukraine in the men's team épée in front of a big home crowd at the Syma Event and Congress Centre in Budapest.

Gábor Boczkó (pictured top) was Hungary's hero, closing the match out 42-38, after Ukraine had drawn level in the middle of the contest.

"This is a very important medal for me...this is a feeling like at the Olympic Games," Boczkó said after the victory.

France won bronze.

With only 10 fencing events contested at London 2012, men's team épée had not featured on the Olympic programme.

In the women's team épée event in Budapest, Russia got the better of China, the Olympic champions, with Romania third.

This was the second team gold medal of the Championships for Russia and the third gold in all.

Yesterday, their men's sabre team had defeated Romania in their gold-medal match, with South Korea taking bronze.

Meanwhile, the Italian women duly added the gold medal for team foil to that won by Arianna Errigo in the individual event.

Errigo and her teammates, also Olympic champions, were far too strong for France in the final, winning 45-18.

Olympic silver medallists Russia had to be content with bronze.
