The 26-year-old from Jiangxi, who won gold medals at Beijing 2008 and London 2012 in the –49 kilogram class, will attend the camp which is being run by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) and Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

The partnership has been founded on the WTF and OCA's shared goal of promoting sport, healthy lifestyles and Olympism to young people, officials claimed.

Jingyu will be joined in Bangkok by two other stars with London 2012 silver medallist Lee Dae-Hoon from South Korea and bronze medallist Chanatip Sonkham of Thailand.

The three Olympians are due to visit the Thai capital from August 2 to 4 to train and share what it means to be a champion with young taekwondo athletes.


"It is a great honour to have three world-class taekwondo athletes joining us at the Youth Camp this summer," said WTF President Chungwon Choue.

"Jingyu Wu, Dae-Hoon Lee and Chanatip Sonkham have shown their passion and expertise on the biggest stage of all at the Olympics and all have come away with medals.

"The presence of these Olympians will inspire our young athletes, while their knowledge of the sport will boost skill development.

"The camp will hopefully play a part in nurturing Olympic-level champions of the future but it is also a marvellous opportunity for young people to build international relationships.

"Promoting fair play and sportsmanship is integral to the how the Youth Camp is managed and I am confident that young people who attend will become excellent ambassadors for sportsmanship and international friendship and cooperation."
