163691490May 14 - University of Colorado head coach Tad Boyle has been appointed as one of the United States court coaches for the men's basketball Universiade training camp, along with fellow collegiate head coaches Jim Kessler of Grace College and Matt Matheny of Elon University.

The trio - appointed by the USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team committee - will assist the coaching squad of Bob McKillop from Davidson College and assistants John Beilein of Michigan and Frank Martin from the University of South Carolina for the men's basketball Universiade training camp in Colorado Springs from June 24 to July 1.

The team will then make their way to Russia for the biennial Summer Universiade in Kazan from July 6 until 17.

Boyle has experienced great success with the Colorado Buffaloes since joining from the University of North Colorado three seasons ago, leading them to three successive seasons in which they've produced 20 wins or greater, as well as securing NCAA Tournament invites both this season and last.

"It's an honour and a privilege to be involved with an organisation like USA Basketball and what it means to our country, so I'm honoured that they asked me to be a part of it in a small way," he said.

Kessler's distinguished career at Grace College has spanned over four decades, in which he has mustered an impressive 679 career wins and fifteen 20-win seasons, as well as leading the Lancers to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II National Championship semi-finals this season.

"I'm highly honoured to have the opportunity to contribute to USA Basketball," he said.

"It's an honour for the NAIA to be included at this level.

"I think USA Basketball is recognising there are a lot of good coaches at this level."

Matheny comes fresh from leading the Elon Phoenix to their most successful season at NCAA Division I level and being voted Southern Conference Coach of the Year thanks to his team's Conference North Division title win.

And after previously spending a decade as McKillop's assistant at Davidson, Matheny is looking forward to linking up with him once more next month.

"I am thrilled and very honoured to be associated with USA Basketball," Matheny said.

"Many of the things that I have learned in coaching I have learned from Bob McKillop.

"The opportunity to spend more time with him is an incredible opportunity for further development in this profession."

The US are due face North American rivals Canada in Pool C in Kazan, as well as the Czech Republic, Australia and the United Arab Emirates.
