105059823May 14 - Australia have named a trio of Olympians in their swimming squad for the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan, including Commonwealth Games gold medallist Ryan Napoleon.

The 22-year-old freestyler Napoleon will be joined by two fellow Olympians - Daniel Arnamnart and Jayden Hadler - at the Universiade in Russia, which is due to take place between July 6 and 17.

Alongside them will be Ben Treffers and Katie Goldman, who both competed at the 2011 World Championships and will be hunting for medals this summer.

Treffers narrowly missed out on qualification for the FINA World Championship after finishing second in the men's 100 metres backstroke qualifier, whereas Goldman will be looking to build on the fourth place she took at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi and the fifth place she achieved in the 2011 World Championships in the 800m freestyle.

"I was impressed with the times the swimmers posted at the EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships, but now I am looking for this team to raise the bar again and set the world standard in Russia," said Swimming Australia's Director of High Performance Michael
Scott.

Australian Uniroos Chef De Mission and two-time Universiade gold medallist Martin Roberts said: "The swimming team has always been very successful at the Summer Universiades.

"This team has a good mix of experience and youth and we hope to build on the success of the past games.

"If recent performances at the Australian Championships are anything to go by, we are in for an exciting Games."

The team, which will be led by Australia Olympic coach Grant Stoelwinder, will go to a lead-in camp in Dubai before action gets underway in the pool at Kazan 2013.
