CenturyLink Centre in swim modeApril 27 - Omaha will host the United States Olympic swimming trials for the third consecutive time after beating competition from San Antonio and St. Louis to secure the rights to host the event.


The announcement of the host city was made via live webcast by USA Swimming and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).

Each of the three candidate cities did a video presentation prior to the announcement, which was made at the USA Swimming Board of Directors meeting.

USOC chief executive Scott Blackmun, USA Swimming Executive Director Chuck Wielgus and USA Swimming Assistant Executive Director Mike Unger were all in attendance for the announcement, alongside USA Swimming President Bruce Stratton, who revealed that Omaha would host the Trials for the third consecutive time following a unanimous vote from the board of directors.

"We wanted to take risks, but we wanted to take wise risks," said Unger

"In the end, there were more checked boxes for Omaha than any other city."

The Trials will take place at the CenturyLink Centre, the state-of-the-art, 17,000-seat sports and entertainment venue in downtown Omaha in Nebraska, with dates and time standards yet to be confirmed.

"The Olympic Trials is a spectacular event, offering a great experience for our athletes, fans, families and coaches," said Wielgus.

"Trials is our sport's signature event and in announcing Omaha as the 2016 host city today, we are lighting the fuse for literally hundreds of thousands of young swimmers who will be setting their sights on qualifying to participate in the greatest swimming event in the country."

Two temporary 50 metre pools for Trials will be installed by Myrtha Pools in the CentruryLink Centre .

The convention centre will once again serve as the home for the award-winning, 100,000 square-foot USA Swimming Aqua Zone, a sponsor and fan experience area.

USA Swimming is coming off a year in which it saw its most successful Trials event in history.

The 2012 US Olympic Trials saw more 164,000 fans in attendance and the eight days of competition were broadcast live on NBC television every night.
