The Village has very much been designed with one of Gwangju 2015's core values, being environmentally-friendly, in mind, officials claimed.

An old apartment complex in downtown Gwangju will be re-developed into a state-of-the-art facility, catering to the needs of athletes and ensuring that their comfort is accounted for so that they can focus on putting in top performances during the Games.

The complex will be split into four zones; operational zone, joint zone, international zone, and the residential zone, and will operate for 20 days, including pre and post-Games.

Various amenities such as a laundry room, hair salon, bank, post office, photo studio, book café, computer centre, multi-media centre, karaoke facilities, theatre room, gaming centre, fitness centre, billiard room and table tennis room will all be available for athletes to use at the Village.

Oriental and physical therapy treatments will be offered as well as a variety of different cuisines in on-site restaurants.

The  Village will also feature a Culture Square, which will offer cultural activities such as B-Boy shows, which are displays of a form of popular acrobatic urban dancing, and K-Pop (Korean pop) concerts.

There will also be a competition information centre on site so that all athletes can keep up to date with what is happening at the Games and give athlete's the opportunity to watch events on live television.

Construction on the Village is due to be completed in March 2015, with a test event scheduled before the Universiade gets underway in July 2015.
