150068344March 10 - Britain's Olympic taekwondo gold medallist Jade Jones took her first gold medal since London 2012 at the German Open in Hamburg as fellow Britons Ruebyn Richards and Martin Stamper also took victory in their respective classes.

World Championship silver medallist Jones was defeated in the first round at the Swedish Open in Trelleborg last week, but came back with a vengeance in Hamburg, defeating Russia's Daria Zhuravleva 13-11 in the final to claim the -57kg title- her first gold medal since defeating world champion Yuzhuo Hou of Chine to become Britain's first ever taekwondo Olympic gold medallist.

"After the disappointment of losing in Sweden, I was determined to do well here," said the 19-year-old Jones from Flint in Wales.

Jones will now turn her attentions to the World Championships, which take place in  Puebla, Mexico over the weekend of July 12-14, aiming to go one better than the silver medal she won in Gyeongju, South Korea, in 2010.

"Now it's all about my preparations for the World Championships," she said

"I only got silver last time and I'd love to win gold."

Nottingham-born Reubyn Richards won a milestone first A-Class tournament gold medal, winning six fights, including two by sudden death, to take the -74 kg title.

"I always believed I could do it," said the 20-year-old Richards, who dropped down a weight class since taking bronze in the -80kg in Trelleborg last month.

"I feel comfortable at -74kg because I am a small -80 player," he explained.

"I stuck to my game plan and everything fell into place."

In a fine weekend for British taekwondo, Martin Stamper, who narrowly missed out on a medal at London 2012 after losing in the semi-finals, defeated fellow Briton and European champion Michael Harvey on his way to regaining his -68kg title.

Liverpool-born Stamper defeated Russia's Vasilii Nikitin 11-4 in the final to reclaim the crown he won in 2011.

"I am so glad to be fighting at my best again," he said

"This is one of the toughest opens in the world.

"I hope it can be a stepping stone for me to be at the top of the World Championship podium in July."

In the junior event, there was more success for Britain, as Nishaan Landa won gold in the -59kg, Tim Needham took silver in the -45kg and Natasha Burdock won bronze in the -42kg.
