151137436March 6 - London 2012 Paralympic gold medallist Kelly Cartwright has been named as the Victorian Sportsperson of the Year, alongside rower Kim Crow.


The pair were announced as joint Sportsperson of the Year at the Victorian Sport Awards in Melbourne, which celebrate the sporting achievements of athletes from the Australian state of Victoria.

The 23-year-old Cartwright, from Geelong, won gold in the long jump T42 and silver in the 100 metres T42 at London 2012, and was nominated for the Australian Paralympic Athlete of the Year which was awarded to swimmer Jacqueline Freney, who won eight gold medals from eight events in London.

London 2012 was Cartwright's second Games after competing at Beijing 2008, finishing sixth in the 100m T42.

The 2012 Male Athlete of the Year was awarded to Australian National Road Race Championship cyclist Simon Gerrans, whilst Crow also took the Female Athlete of the Year award after winning bronze and silver in rowing at last summer's Olympics.
